I had a couple NGC certified coins where cases cracked when shipped roughly 100 miles. Does insurance cover coin cases getting cracked in shipment? Thanks.
I agree with cpm9ball. Sounds like poor packaging by the seller, and should probably be their responsibility to figure out the insurance/replacement issues. -Brandon
They were actually my coins damaged in shipment, two NGC and one PCGS slabbed coin; for some reason the PCGS coin holder did not arrive cracked but the NGC coins did. This is the first time I have had coin holders damaged in shipment in many years. Could it be because they were in a flat rate priority envelope?
That happened to me once as a seller. A proof indian head cent. The holder shattered so I reimbursed the buyer for the entire amount of recertification. Fees, shipping both ways... everything. I took a big loss, but that was also the last time I ever "under-padded" a shipment. Now I go overboard on bubble wrap every time.
Probably, yes! All envelopes go through the automated sorting unless they are too thick. Next time, maybe you should use the Priority Flat Rate box. Chris
And yet that does not guarantee that they will get scanned with updated tracking; I shipped a flat parcel on Saturday that the postal worker swore was processed at the distribution center later that day but so far no tracking.
The postal service has been exceptionally poo poo lately. A coin I purchased took FIVE DAYS to go from two cities south of me to my city. And then a month ago, I received a coin purchased on a Monday on Wednesday...ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. Same method of shipping on each. Same size package. It is the inconsistencies that bother me.
There terrible one publication I get is so chronically late if it shows up at all I'm about ready to cancel and I shipped 2 checks to a fellow ct member for purchases and the one I sent 2 days later got to him 3 days before the other (I told him to wait and send both coins together) and I get mail and packages that look like my friends boxer puppy got ahold of it frequently and again their raising prices I had it a few years ago anything valuable fragile or absolutely need to be delivered on time I send either fedex or ups
I use First Class/Large Envelope/Rigid. I ship in a 9" x 7" padded envelope with an extra layer of bubble wrap AND stiffeners. A single slab in all that packaging ships at 4 ozs. Multiple slabs obviously weigh more. I know I've shipped two together that way. For more than two I'd use a larger padded envelope.
There are a lot of auction companies, etc. that ship priority without all the extra hoopla huge overkill box. I have gotten a lot of certified high value coins that way; business sized envelope with a gummy cardboard coin sandwich. I have a box of those coin mailers, sometimes I don't use them as they aren't cheap. USPS has free padded mailers for priorities.
A little bit of extra packing is a good thing. I would always complain about to much tape, packaging and such from the seller but I have never lost a item that was shipped to me. Sometime I felt like I needed dynamite to get the packaging off the coin, But I have recieved the coins in my mail box. I no longer even worry about it anymore, just cut it off.
