i have seen this before i never kept them thinking they are die damage or die ware,,tha was what i was told
That is the first thing that came to mind, some sort of die movement rather than an issue with the die, but ONLY on that one part and NONE of the surrounding parts? Both the coin and the die are supposed to be obeying the laws of physics. Or can you expand on the slide thing please.
If it's not slide doubling then it's metal flow arising for unknown reasons. Slide doubling, or any form of machine doubling for that matter, can be quite localized, affecting, for example, only a mintmark or the date.
Across the coin we have some more of this, and it seems to magically not involve the intervening letter. To me it looks like a hub was machined.
