While I've started collecting a Type Set I figured I might as well expand on that into another variety in the collection. Only 2 more to go but that will take a little more savings. I choose mostly raw conditioned coins because they show off the detail so much more IMO. And I didn't want to repeat a coin type for added variety. Although I now have all 5 Morgans this was a bit more fun.
It almost killed me to post the nickel but it has the best "P" around. I dug it out of my kid set of nickels and of all the P nickels it had the most contrast. I was convinced I was going to post all MS60 and better coins but after taking pics they just didn't pop like these worn ones do.
Dahlonega and Charlotte mints. Only minted gold in the mid 1800s. Technically there is yet another US Mint in Manila but I don't believe they ever minted a US coin but I may add that as my mood changes.
Yep, it's just another fun way to collect with a history lesson. Until the "w" dime the set can be complete with Morgans(excluding gold) but I really like the "P" of the nickel. The new "P" on moderns are fairly subdued. Plus, living at and graduating from a Big 10(or whatever they are now) University I see the "P" everywhere I go....... Since the odds of finding another Jefferson P in change like I did for the dates I have as a kid I'll probably seek a better one out for purchase. Although it's hard to discount one that was found vs bought.
