What is this heavily worn coin? My nephew was asking about this coin and I had no answers. He thinks its Roman, but I don't believe so. I'm not even sure what to Google, since there is so little left of the coin. But, I imagine someone here will know exactly what this. Appears to have a "C" counter-stamp, and on the other side some serious deep scratches in form of "X". Let the games begin!
I'd bet that it's a Georg III halfpence. See the III on the obverse and the seated figure on the reverse? Those are some hints right there.
Can't tell the metal from the pics appears to be silver which I'd say George III sixpence I can make out enough of the georgius III Rex on the obverse and the bust looks right I'd date it mid 18th c 1760
WOW, you guys are good and fast!!!! Looks like George III [xxxx] is correct to me. I need to look at lots of pics to compare to narrow it down. Does counter-stamp in this case add or remove value? I know the scratches certainly detract from value.
If is copper I'd say half pence size for one or the other can tell the metal from the pic looks silver in places copper in others
In this case I'd say it doesn't really matter is value mainly as a conversation piece numismatic value minimal
I should have measured it first, silly me! Too excited I guess. Okay, looks to be about 28mm. And looks copper.
Because it's in such a low grade the normal value is minimal, I'd say that it adds value (of course to me counter marks almost always add value).
