My wife wants to get me a magazine subscription to a "coin" magazine. She asked me what one I would like....I told her "I don't know"....any ideas which would be best?
If you like to keep abreast of the latest events in numismatics, I'd recommend Coin World or Numismatic News, both of which are weekly issues. CW is a little better because it also includes the monthly issues of the Coin Values magazine. Both are printed on standard newsprint (except for the Coin Values). The Numismatist is printed on high-gloss paper and is included in the ANA membership, but it is a monthly magazine. Chris
Coin World has both a monthly and a weekly edition, but my vote is definitely for the Numismatist (comes with an ANA membership, which is well worth it).
I don't have to say anymore, these gentlemen have it pegged. Both have good articles, the Numismatist has some of the most well thought out subjects. Coin World is lauded to have tons of advertisements, but a nice mix of articles as well.
It depends on what you want out of the magazine. Most US coin collectors are happiest with Coin World and or Numismatic News. In my opinion, both of them should be required reading material if you collect US coins.
Thank you for all of the input. I purchased Coin World a couple weeks ago...enjoyed it...just wondered if there was a better option.
I received subscriptions to both for Xmas this year. If I had to choose one, it would be Coin World, but I enjoy both.
+1 The Numismatist (included in the ANA membership) And have your wife email you this link: http://www.coinweek.com/ a great free coin "magazine".
I am a member of the ANA so I get The Numismatist. I find it lacking in articles of interest to me. Or some that are tend to lack "meat". Now after having said that, I have to admit that the latest edition had two VERY interesting articles.
Well, if you think that some articles in the Numismatist lack meat, then you certainly won't find it anywhere.
