I could use some help ID'ing this. I'm probably just overlooking a country that will leave me smacking my forehead, but I'm not seeing this. Closest I'm finding is Morocco:
It is from the Ottoman Empire, dated 1063 AH. that is 1652 AD. I can read Sultan Mohamed son of ( possibly Majed). Good luck.. Charles
Are you sure about that? I thought most of those were produced holed. I'm having more trouble getting an ID for it than I should though, so the thought that it might be a fantasy/counterfeit/concha had occurred to me.
Is there a reason that false coins were made for dance costumes (a religious prohibition of some kind, or some laws against punching holes in circulating coinage)?
