Greetings. This Lebanese coin of Half piastre weighs 2.2 grams. It is listed under KM # 11 as only made of brass, but mine is made of Aluminum. Please help me find an answer to this enigma. Charles
Lebanon also made a 1941 1/2 Piastre made of zinc. However, it wasn't holed. The 2-1/2 Piastre was struck on aluminum. I have no idea, but my educated guess is that the wrong stock was used somehow. I'll be watching this thread to see what the final verdict is. Cool coin and good luck!
That weight is within 0.03 grams of what the brass coin is supposed to weigh. Therefore, I don't think it's aluminum. It should be lighter than specified and is 0.03 g heavier. What aspects are making you think aluminum? Is it color?
Sorry, missed that yesterday. Much too heavy to be aluminum, and too heavy to be zinc either. Almost certainly a post mint plated regular issue.
I greatly appreciate your assistance. I tend to believe that the final verdict is a post mint plated coin. Thanks.. Charles
