Now, I got this one the other day from being in circulation, and... well, I'm not sure what to say. I mean, yes it is from 1991 which is rare for circulated coins, but... I really don't know what else to say. Now, if it were just the bulge on the face side and a divot on the back, I'd just say someone smashed it and call it a day... however, as you can see, there's no matching divot on the back. The edge is also quite strange... It almost looks melted, but I'm not sure. Now, I'm completely new to this forum, so I don't quite know what to expect. However, this is the first time I've ever seen a coin like this. I hope this isn't just some form of damage, though chances are that it probably is.
Much better. Looks like someone took this over to the spotwelder and experimented. That's approximately the same diameter as the tips used on our machines... and they certainly generate enough heat to cause this.
Well, I guess that makes for an unfortunate end for that coin, then. Not sure how it got back into circulation after being spot-welded, of all things; but there's not much else to do with it now. Back into circulation it goes.
It's actually sort of neat-looking. I keep a little box of weird PMD coins, for some reason. Some of them are quite interesting, albeit worthless.
Well, not quite worthless, as they're still worth face value. I also keep all the PMD coins I find, like this quarter:
Neat how the nickel has separated from the copper core at the top. I have a melted mess of 7 SL quarters that were in a house fire. They actually melted together in a quite interesting way. I now use it as a 90% silver paperweight.
Heh heh! I'd only keep that one to toss in a stone skipping contest............That is one fugly coin!
