    Thanks,
Normally I mint and sell my own items. But I was comissiond to do these president medallions by a different outfit, and they are selling them on TV.

    What did you mint ?

    PS:
I didn't mean to hijack this thread. The president dollars will be minted as P & D for circulation, and S for proof. There was also some talk of making some or all of the proofs in silver.

Yes. Circulation coins from both Philly and Denver. Proofs from San Fran. The mint was considering a set in silver but would need another act of Congress to produce them.
Dansco has two books out for these coins so far....

    Dansco Presidential Dollar Albums

    Presidential Dollar Date Set ----
Space for one coin per President
    Presidential P&D Set -------
Space for two coins per President (Philadelphia and Denver Mints)

    Presidential P&D & Proof Set
Production on this release has been postponed indefinitely
Dansco is waiting to see if Congress decides to make the Silver Presidential Dollar
Most likely a two volume set - Spaces for P&D and S-Proof

I've desinged some medallions with some geometric designs and one for my little one man band. The other is in my avatar. I'd post pictures. But, I don't want to stray too much from the subject of this thread. Your designs for the presidential medals are amazing. Inquire about buying things by PM, not coin forum posting

Also, what mint do you work with to strike your designs? I've done work with Roger Williams Mint, SilverTowne and now Regency Mint.

That is really nice. I like that one a lot.

I submitted a Michigan state quarter design that had the Mackinac Bridge on it.

    Nice work !

I've used Northwest Territorial Mint and Sunsine Mint in the past. I didn't like NWTM. Sunshine Mint wasn't bad. But lately I've been using Regency Mint. I visited there last month and stamped a couple of my own medals when I was there. I'm going to be getting my own press in a couple months, so I plan to be striking everything myself eventually. But I'll still probably use Regency Mint to make my blanks.

I'm also starting to cut my own dies too. Previously, I cut 8" diameter 3-D models for use on a reduction lathe to make dies. But I'm going to skip that step and go directly from the digital sculpture to the die.

I saw the $1 medallions on HSN, I can't imagine anyone in the coin collecting community wanting to be even vaguely associated with the guy that is the host of HSN's coin show/offerings. If I remember correctly (my memory is terrible) the medallion set is $29 and then you can lock in real US Mint dollar coins for same price each year. So you can get $8 worth of coins for the bargain price of $29, plus shipping/tax of course.

What is so terrible about the 4-coin medallion set at $29 ? When I sell my own concept pattern/prorotype small dollar coins, they are at least $20 each. EVERYTHING sold on TV is sold at a high markup. The HSN coin show is harmless entertainment. In comparison, all those TV ads for unnecessary medicine, predatory lending, etc, etc, are not harmless.

Have they actually presented these medallions on TV!? I'm gonna check their schedule and watch. I can't wait to hear Mike Meesack (sp) talk about these. He is fun to watch. Remember "All coins are graded at a scale of 1 to 70, with 70 being perfect. There is no 17 or 70.1". And, I'm sure he'll say "please understand...", etc. etc. It would be cool if HSN asked you to come on the program to talk about your quarter designs and these medallions. I mean, hey, they have keith love in there.

Yes, those presidential medallions were shown on TV. Actually, I was on the show too. In December I flew to Tampa and was on the live show three different times over the weekend. I was only on for a couple minutes at a time, talking about designing the state quarters and the president medallions. I didn't discuss prices, values, rarity or anything like that. I enjoyed the time I spent there, it was interesting. Everyone was very nice.

I also taped a similar show in Scottsdale that will run on CSN at some point.

I'm sorry Mr.Carr, I did not mean your medallions were not worth $29. What I meant was HSN used your stuff as a gimmick to launch their rip-off sets. I still think the HSN guy is a snake oil salesman.

Ok, I didn't understand your point the first time. Yes, they are using the medallions as a way to get people signed up early for their president dollar coin program. But I believe the prices for those are $44.95 for a roll of 20. However, using a new type of tube, the entire rolls are graded by ICG as MS65 or better.
Yes, you can probably get rolls of the dollars at your local bank for less (but only "P" OR "D" mint, depending upon where you live). Compared to a lot of things that are hyped on TV, they are not really a bad deal. Worst case - you pay $44.95 and then spend them for $20 if you get tired of them. Go into a mall jewelry store and buy a diamond ring. Then go try and find a wholesale buyer for it (if you even can). You'd be lucky to get back 20% of what you spent.

So there are a lot of things with inflated prices to complain about. I just think these president dollars aren't so bad, compared to many other things.

Friend Mr.Carr, you obviously have a financial relationship with HSN and I'm sure not going to fault you for that. You're getting national recognition for your hard work and deservedly so. But on the other hand, I watched the dollar/medallion pitch twice and Mr. Mike Messick(sp?) did not mention your name either time; he did not say these medals were designed by an award winning artist, or anything for that matter about you.

I just feel sorry for the folks who plunk down their hard earned money to buy anything this guy sells. He makes it sound like he is doing collectors a favor, that he is the only one who has these coins/sets and that his offerings are the best deals in the history of the planet Earth. Anything this guy sells you can get directly from the US Mint if it's a current mintage; or you can get from a reputable dealer. They gobble up coins, have some grading service in their hip pocket, put sets in their own packaging and make it sound like the deal of the century.

You mentioned a roll of dollars for 44.95, plus shipping 7.50, plus tax 3.50; so for around 56.00 you get something that's worth 20.00 and you can get at the corner bank. And what's with the state quarter sets that they gold plate, another worthless scamola. I know it's let the buyer beware and free enterprise and all that; it's just a shame because it is not representative of the coin collecting community.

    Thanks, Douglas
