LOL I had to reread what you said. I read it several times and in my mind I read reverse even though you posted obverse. Anyway I knew what you were talking about. Those phones and their auto correct often make some interesting mistakes
Go to my bank, I just put in a few dozen wheat cents going back to 1919. I figured they're worn but there might be a young kid out there that finds it. That's how I got started collecting. Oldest coin I found in circulation was a 1919 so I'm just trying to keep the hobby strong and alive!
There's a bigger chance the wheats will be ignored and eventually sent back to the mint for destruction.
How do you figure? They are legal tender. They don't have any PM content like pre-64 silver coinage. I see no reason for them to be destroyed by the mint unless they do away with the cent all together like Canada did.
Right, just like any coin. The way I read your first post was that the mint was picking the wheats out for destruction. They obviously wouldn't waste their time with that. I gotta say though, I'm not worried about them falling out of circulation completely any time soon. I see way more worn down crappy Zincolns than I do worn down crappy wheats.
Picked up two rolls at an M & T bank looked through them found about 30 copper cents and only one wheat, but it's a 1910 P . And the wrappers are from the place that I retired from about 11 years ago. Just funny.
Hahahaha when I get home tomorrow I will post a picture of my reject wheat bag. They range from a little verdigris to WTF is that?! Of course, since they are wheats I still keep em.
There's a river in these parts called the Verdigris River. Every time I see the word I think of the river.
Most recent haul: 6 Canadian cents 7 Wheaties! 1944, 1944D, 1946, 1947D, 1952, 1953D, 1958D Also I found a cent that has a cross cut ouf of the center of it...kinda different
Over the last week I've found a 1944-D and a 1946-P. I usually find many more wheats, but I've been on third shift where I don't get to look through nearly as much change.
I have 36,000 plus wheats currently , the wheat penny is my favorite coin except for maybe mercury dimes. I havent had much luck finding people that are selling wheats lately or finding in 50 bags, any suggestions of where to look?
Wow! That is a lot of Wheaties! They are my favorite coin as well. I just search through boxes of $25 in cents from the bank. I haven't had much luck finding the older Wheaties but I usually find 7-8 per box.
