OK, wheat is easy. The US Barber series has wheat, corn, and tobacco, as symbolic of the three crops important to the sections of the nation. Many Roman coins have cornucopias, but how many actually show the stuff inside? I don't suppose Romania celebrate romaine lettuce... Swiss chard?...

    What else?

Here's Fortuna on a denarius of Septimius Severus, holding a cornucopia with something protruding. What is it? As Anonaria, she was the protector of grain stores, but what sort of grain might this be? I don't know - looks like tulips to me...

What makes this different from a regular Fortuna? Rudder and cornucopia are the standard-issue attributes of the deity.

The first thing that popped up in my head when it comes to vegetables on coins is FAO coins. But FAO coins usually commemorate grains, fruits, agriculture machines etc.

    This might be interesting: http://typesets.wikidot.com/f-a-o-coins

The only two that I have found so far is as follows:

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dominican-R...8360869?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3a89b3bc25

A fair number of corns on coins

Makes me wonder if coin collectors or designers are generally not herbivore... (would open an interesting debate). Reason being is that you can see a lot of animal coins but not really a lot of vegetable on coins. (I couldn't even think of any until I researched)

Is your question rhetorical, or is this a quiz? The only thing I can think of is what's in the cornucopia. I looked at a few dozen renditions of Fortuna on various coins, and the contents of the cornucopiae mostly look like stalks of grain. On my coin, they appear to be flower buds. Is she holding some sort of produce important to the economies of the Eastern provinces?

I'm just not seeing the difference between regular Fortuna and Fortuna Annonaria. In my experience, the coins are usually not detailed enough to determine the contents of the cornucopiae. I'm not convinced that it holds any significance beyond the whim of the engraver.

Ah, I see. I'm looking for a distinction that likely doesn't exist.

I have a lot of world coins with different plants and vegetables on them, but I never really set them aside in any special collection. I know a lot of African and developing nations seem more likely to have them. I remember one from maybe Ghana that has a peanut on it. There's a Mexican 10 centavo with an ear of corn as well.
