I should never have posted here in the first place. I didn't realize when I clicked on it who started the thread. I have learned my lesson.
hey guys I think I may know what rare tim's problem is. It looks as if he is seeing doubled die coins in magazines, books, or probably on websites . then when he finds a coin with the same date on as the doubled die coin in his own mind it becomes the rare doubled die. I have seen a few beginning error collectors do this and there is no way to convince them they are wrong. It's like banging one's head into rock .
I suspect he is trying hard to understand some elementary things, but sometimes with out a nearby club or a friendly local coin store, it can be difficult. Hoping he will understand that the chances of any coin in circulation of being a rare one is like actually starting a new car with an advertising key in the mail, but the chances of finding someone who knows on CT is quite high. The problem is acceptance of others input, but that will come with time.
Acceptance & patience are the keys. The hardheadedness is a major plus, but only if accompanied with the acceptance and patience. You have to accept what more knowledgable folks are trying to teach you while being hardheaded enough to refuse to give up searching. The patience will pay off. It only takes that first DDO or DDR, in hand, to flip the light switch. It did for me anyway. Good luck Tim.
Rare-Tim's threads are great. I just wanted to say that. I think I might have a suggestion as to why he is finding so many DD's... All kidding aside, I will say that in my first stages of variety hunting I was convinced that I'd found a DD in every other roll of coins I had. It did take me quite some time to calibrate myself to distinguish between real varieties and face value coins. Of course, I never remember carrying on a conversation with myself here as other people's comments bounced off my posts like cat treats off my poor, weak-sighted cat's face.
Just what exactly are you hoping to accomplish from these new posts in this thread? You leave no descriptions for half of the posts (just posting 1 word like "wow", "oh", etc), then post a far shot of like 8 coins saying "they aren't all doubled dies", and then a blurry shot of 50+ coins on a chair. This is just absurd.
