Those are damn good numbers. Looks like the coppers are going to be available in circulation for a while to come. Just today found a nice steel 43 in coinstar chute.
Just finished my 1st box for 2014: Wheats: 1947, 1950-S, 1952-D, 1956-D, 1957, 1958-D Canadian: 1970, 1979, 1992 Plus 553 copper cents - 22.12% I'll pick up $40 in nickels tomorrow assuming the credit union can accommodate.
First post haha! Got 3 boxes Friday just finished got 2581 coppers so that's like a 34% And got a hand full of wheaties all 40's and 50's though
Just did $20 from the bank, these were mostly Denver pennies for some reason, and they were wrapped in clear plastic. 388 copper pennies = 19.5% copper 11 of those were 1950s wheaties, 1 of those was a MS63-65 1958-D A 1964-D in MS65 2 were Canadian coppers Heard a story on NPR about a guy who does this because he "slowly doubles his money". Been hearing some rumors that the US penny's days are numbered! Its nice to search these rolls from the bank, because soon enough it won't be possible. Also I notice that in my pocket change, I rarely come across coppers anymore, as if the cashiers are in the know and are snagging them.
absolutely..... my first four boxes were all 2013 solids. on three differetn days at three different banks. almost gave up before i even started! have had much better luck since then though... only about 1/10 is like that. i just pop em open and hand them rright back when that happens.
I remember a few years ago when I started doing this and got really, really into it. I was even thinking about it before going to bed, thinking how I'd nab some more copper cents out there. Then slowly I stopped seeking them, and one day I brought them to coinstar! Some lucky guy out there got them all! I have a small accumulation again. I think we really have to wait this out to benefit the most. I've also wondered about the nasty blueish cents and whether to keep those with the others. I actually don't keep them if they have that infectious blue grime on them, even if they're an early wheat cent.
I also want to add that one time, believe it or not, I got a 1863 Indian cent in Fine. I got it in a bank roll. Another time I got a IH cent in Good condition dated somewhere in the early 1900s.
