Someone please explain Morgan dollar grade

I am so poed. I just got this coin back from pcgs and cannot understand hot it didnt get graded. Can someone enlighten me how this coin got a damaged grade? To bad too this face is so friggen free of hits too! I have to imagine its a mostake unless im missing something

The fields on the obverse look a little unnatural IMO. That is really the only thing I am picking up on, but I guess PCGS wanted to pick a fight with your coin...

 

Lol OK I am not the only one who thinks something is bizarre here. Not even a ding on the rim it has to be a mistake. I thought I was gonna get a 66 grade or at least a 65

 

That's Pcgs for you. I don't submit to them any more, I always have some kind of issue with them.

 

I dunno nonsense, they only mentioned a rim damage. I didn't notice anything unusual on rev.

I switched from NGC subscription to PCGS because I felt I couldsell the pPCBs coins easier and for more but now I realize I am mistaken. NGC always graded favorably for me. Its just PCBs is so much more favored by people who buy from me

 

You're only showing us pictures of obv and rev, not the reeded edge. Any damage to those reeds counts.
I think this area here might be the reason for the grade.

 

Reeded edge is perfect. No bumps or dings wcoins I'm not sure what you are referring to.

I think the area that wcoins showed from the left of the E. to the left of the P. The denicles appear worn down. I have seen something similar from an ill fitting jewelry bezel, but not sure.

 

That whole reverse rim looks like it has come out of a bezel to me. It looks to be angled rather than flat.

This is exactly why I believe grading is a sham and a racket. You can submit two identical coins and they will get a different grade more than 50% of the time. It is too subjective and there are too many variables that prevent it from being a consistent standard. And this is assuming there aren't any ulterior motives by the grading company or graders.

 

Well, I for one has submitted series of the same coin picked by me to be closely identical to PCGS divided over several submissions and they came back as I expected with 95% identical grade ( they were Lincolns). A similar group sent to NGC came back +1 MS point, so they grade ( on Lincolns) about 1 point higher than PCGS in my experience, again about 90% identical. So as far as I am concerned I feel your 50% statement to be unfounded. I believe the reason PCGS Lincoln sell for more is that they are more conservatively graded and many know it. I made a Lincoln work sheet with 10 lincoln cent images with 10% opacity and made note of any markers and my expected grade for each submission, and compared when they returned. NGC did bag 2 coins as "harshly cleaned ( but was really heavy die polishing), resent to PCGS and they passed. Each service has their own standards and my experience mentioned here is only for Lincolns.

 

I should of also stated that the discrepancy becomes larger the worse the condition gets. For instance, if you are submitting two nearly identical coins that are high grade (68-70), then obviously they will get graded more consistent. However send two nearly identical coins AU50 or below, and I'm confident they will get graded different 50% of the time (or greater). With that said, no 2 coins are 100% identical.

 

I agree that there appears to be damage from a jewelry mount. Note the line through the center of the denticles on parts of both sides.

I challenge you to attempt to grade thousands of coins every week without going back and comparing them to all of your previous grades. Let's see how good you are!
