What are the bottom five US coins collected, or not collected as the case may be? Regular mint issues, not patterns.

By bottom five, I assume you mean in popularity with collectors.

    My entries:
    1)SBA
    2)IKE
    3)Roos
    4)Kennedy
    5)Non-silver Washington

If you want to know which US series is the least collected ( number of collectors ) - just pick the 5 most expensive series there are ;)

GD's trying to take the fun out of this thread. LOL

Here are the five (common circulating) series that are least collected by me...

    Clad Cents

    Clad Dimes

    Clad Quarters

    Clad Halves

    Clad Dollars

    (hope cladking doesn't see this)

Yes, in 1982 the Lincoln Memorial cent was changed to a copper plated, zinc core composition. In other words, they are now made of copper clad zinc.

The Sac. dollar is also a clad issue.

You know, when I posted this, I was thinking series. I did not even think about gold, since I don't collect. It is almost as if US gold coins do not exist in my little world. So yes, you are probably correct. Items like 3 dollar gold, any capped bust right gold, flowing hair dollars, etc.
But then again, you gotta have at least one of each for a complete type set.

Raise your hand if you have any Capped Bust Right Gold.

Why do most US collectors ignore the gold or even forget it exists? I'm very partial to $20 Libs but that's just not answering the question.

I personally feel the $10 Indian is underapprecated, which upsets me cos i think it was the best of all the new gold types that came out around 1907, it beats those incuse things hands down.

Well, as for myself, I haven't forgotten that it exists. It's just not something that's collectible.
The reason it's not collectible? Simple. It's not affordable.

Hmm personally i love expensive coins the more expensive the more i like them.

I remember when i first got thinking about collecting US coins, so i started reading up about them and i went straight in for the gold.

That's great, Sylvester. I'm glad you are in a position to do that.

Who said i was in a position to collect gold? I just like reading about them and looking at them... heck i can't afford to collect US gold, but i still keep thinking of saving up for one. I have had an 1894 VF $20 Lib before, but that practically broke me.

Still itr was the nicest US coin i ever had... i miss the little blighter.

    OK, I misunderstood your post.
Isn't it strange, that although we both speak English, we sometimes have trouble understanding each other? LOL

But seriously, US gold coins (Real coins, not non-circulating commemorative bullion), are great for those that can afford to go that route. They are truly beautiful.

They are beautiful... well many gold coins across the world are. I only have three gold coins (one is Poor+, actually more like poor- these days cos i've been using it as a pocket piece), a dealer wouldn't even give me £20 for the gold value for it cos he said he'd never sell it.

The other two are only about F give or take.

One day i will get a St Gaudens and a $10 Indian but it's a bit much at the moment.

These multi coin holders have been around a little while now. A nice idea overall. There are rumors running around that the big guys may be adding a multiple coin holder for mint - proof sets.
