Rare Septimius Severus Emesa Error

Recently got this coin cause I was in the market for an Emesa severus just to have and during my online research I realized the coin was special due to an engravers error on the reverse. My hunch was right when I found Martins write up of the same type as his. I got the error a few minutes before it ended & I was lucky to be the only bidder.

Mine is a perfect reverse where his was off center.

Below is my coin and attribution is from his with weight & such different for mine.

    Read the description note.

    Not bad for $20 huh?

I was surprised Doug & Martin both missed this.

Obv:– IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG COS II, Laureate head right
Rev:– BONI EVENTVS, Spes standing holding flower and lifting skirt
    Minted in Emesa, A.D. 194 - 195
    References:– BMCRE -, RIC -, RSC -
    Die Axis- 180
    Weight 3.3g

A mix up with the reverse legend and reverse type. The reverse legend should match with the Fides type instead of Spes. Bartosz Awianowicz has the opposite error with a BONA SPES reverse legend and a Fides reverse type.

Great snag (especially for $20) ...

=> sounds like you plan on flipping it and making a couple of quick bucks?

Probably, to another collector on another board. Probably more a multi-coin trade for some byzantines.

A very good find and I guarantee you would have had a fight on your hand if I had spotted it. I have this type Spes when Fides expected and I also have the inverse type of Fides when Spes is expected.
Well spotted as these regularly go unnoticed as people tend to see what they expect to see rather than what is actually there.

One thing I noticed with my reverse of spes thats different with Martins is that mine looks like shes pulled part of the leg off and is walking with one leg and other her foot only.

The hem looks right on martins while mine is rounded and has no leg attachment from the buttocks down.

Just shows its a different die being used too.
