Desert is my favorite patina! Not sure why I haven't bought more of them. I love all of the fabulous examples posted in this thread-- even coin types I don't collect and normally wouldn't look at twice Astarte & Trajan/bull from Aradus, Phoenicia A selectively restruck provincial of Germanicus & Drusus, from Sardes, Lydia Ptolemy II with elephant skin headdress Syrian provincial under Nero, Tyche/ram "issued under pharoah Nektanebo II", although most likely some other Syrian type
Sweet, TIF => those are fantastic desert-patina-additions (some great animals coins ... plus, I love that Germanicus & Drusus restruck baby => I had that one, or a similar example lined-up in one of the auctions, but due to spreading myself thinnly on a bunch of other coins, I was outbid ... curious, is that coin from an auction?)
Yes, it's one of my earliest auction purchases. From Pecunem 5 in July 2013. I saw another nice one recently, perhaps a bit better than this one... considered bidding but I didn't want to be a hog Bet it was the one you are speaking of.
Steve, is this the one you bid on? From CNG Nov 20, 2013. I thought about trying for it but knew there were several other people who really wanted an example of the type. https://www.numisbids.com/n.php?p=lot&sid=593&lot=178
=> Thar she blows!! (yup, that coin is beautiful, eh?) TIF => thanks for tracking it down and making me relive the loss all over again!! just jokes
