Same person is at it again. A few weeks ago they had 2 unopened unsearched rolls of Morgans up for bid and I just found another new posting for one. Gee, sure wish I had found all these at an auction!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unopened-Un...73?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item19e72b146d
When I was a kid I used to buy those from the bank at face, search for the ones I wanted and return the rest. For the seller to say they have never been opened and never searched, ehhh maybe, but not likely. Also possible he's rolling them up himself.
Yes, I remember when I was a kid in So. Cal going to the Security Pacific Bank not far from our house and getting Morgans over the counter for $1. Of course, if I had only known back then that I should have been looking for mint ones and stashing them, I'd probably be a millionaire by now...lol....but alas, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I looked to see what other things he was selling and the normal shotgun rolls of pennies with good stuff on the end...civil war tokens, etc...like many other people have. I suspect he rolls them too because they all look the same. I'd really love to be able to contact someone who buys one of those rolls and see what he found in it if he opened it.
These on Ebay are usually NOT genuine. I have reported many of the blatant fraudulent rolls that are sold (for a lot of money) from banks that never existed. I have no idea about this one, but it sure seems suspicious. I agree with Doug--he's most likely "rolling his own," so to speak. Morgan rolls that were legitimate were searched years ago, and most Morgans were not in rolls--they were stored in mint bags in vaults, as they did not circulate for the most part.
Google does have a listing for a Schwabacher Frey Stationery Co in SF from 1907... Whether or not they printed coin rolls at the time, I do not know....
Eve even better to find a bunch of old unused store stock coin rolls and buy them and use them to roll them makes it even more believable and stuff like that is out there and can be bought cheap often because who wants it except someone rolling their own un searched Morgan rolls
If anyone is buying from this guy, i have a bunch of "unsearched" wheat cent rolls guaranteed not to have an '09-S, '09-S VDB, or the other coin not in my collection yet: the '31-S.
Ye of little faith; these are the best rolled Morgans manufactured from the US mint in Beijing. You may get lucky and find an 1894-B dollar in BU condition.
Okay, an unopened & unsearched roll including a CC $. Considering that 90% (or so) of the CC unc mintage came from the GSA sales, how likely do you think it is that this roll would have a nice CC ender? Yeah, I thought so also.
Look at his other items for sale. Dude sure does find a lot of "unsearched" rolls of all types. Even some with love tokens on the end! lmao.
Hey Greg, get ready. I just sent off the rest of those toners I bought from you two months ago. Let's see what grade they make (the JFK coins). I think there are some gem 65s in those woods, as well as the two proofs, and I will post all of them when I have all back (including the proofs). Figure about a month to 5 weeks, as they are slow now.
Back in the 1980's full rolls of BU Morgan dollars were plentiful but very, very few if any were actually in paper wrappers, they were in plastic tubes. The tubes were easy to open and to dump out the coins for examination by the buyer. Those rolls, though being made up of BU coins, had all of the choicest ones removed and replaced with ones in the same grade range as the rest of the roll. The coins generally were MS-60 to MS-62 with perhaps an occasional MS-63 so any so-called original bank wrapped Morgan dollar roll on eBay is extremely unlikely if not an out and out fabrication.
