http://www.ebay.com/itm/291019448552?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 I sent in the coins worthwhile and the s Indian cent on the roll end, the one the seller pumped up and today pcgs had on their tracking site came up counterfeit. I know opening a roll destroyed some value but if you pump up the end coin and it is counterfeit I feel it is a different situation. I feel like I was sold 48 mystery coins and the two identified non mystery coins. I don't necessarily think it was intentional but there is still a chance that it was. Anyway, i opened a case with eBay. I'm not a lawyer but my understanding is you can't legally sell a counterfeit when you are not clearly identifying it as such. Even if you don't know it is counterfeit I always thought there was some accountability associated in a situation even when you sell it no returns and the roll is open. I would welcome any input. And there is really no need to caution me about buying rolls or raw in the future. Thanks
eBay will give you your money back (or so I've been told). I just went through something like this. It was a single coin. If I had proof it was fake, people much more knowledgeable than me told me that eBay would refund my money and I could keep the coin. In your case of a whole roll, I'm not sure if you'll have to return the rest or what. Can't wait to hear what happens. (if you want to return them, I'm sure you'll get your money back. Not sure that's your best move though.)
I have heard before the same thing, that selling a counterfiet voids any sale, but that said, the seller if he decides to be ornery might dispute that the fake coin was one he sold you, and since the roll has been opened there is also the usual policy of no returns if the coin has been removed from its packaging. If you have archived the page with the listing there is a chance some of the eagle eyes on the site might be able to determine the coin in the roll you were sold was faux.
sad to say i've bought from this guy before, he sold me an altered coin (1908-s with the S soldered on) I did end up returning but left negative feedback and he then offered me $100 to "make things right" ... this guy makes so much bank off unsuspecting customers
Sorry about your situation, and in the future, I would avoid auctions like that. They are no more than "seeded" rolls with good end-coins and junk in the middle.
Honestly, I think you have been a victim of fraud and should report it. There is no bank at 1572 Sunset Blvd, San Francisco. Just add the address into Google maps and see for yourself. It is just a main Boulevard bypassing the avenues. There are no business's on Sunset Blvd itself. Also, I have been a long time browser and decided to add my 2 cents in.
$1009!!!???? I'm sorry friend, but you've been majorly majorly suckered. Do yourself a favor and don't buy any more coins until you've done a heap of research and reading.
I KEEP TELLING PEOPLE DONT BUY RAW OFF OF EBAY.. no one listens....seriously find a LCS get real buddy buddy,,, shoot find 2 or 3
eBay is very specific about counterfeit items: Counterfeit items If a buyer suspects that an item is counterfeit and there are strong indicators that the item is counterfeit, the buyer isn't required to return the item to the seller. The buyer agrees to cooperate with us to ensure the proper disposal of the item. In these cases, we refund the buyer for the full cost of the item and original shipping, and the seller reimburses us for the refund. The buyer may not sell the item on eBay or elsewhere. You have thirty days from the time the item was delivered to open a case... in this case, however, eBay might make an exception, as they do have an extended timeline policy. Read more here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/buyer-protection.html You're case is somewhat different, as only one of the coins was counterfeit... eBay may request the seller to offer a partial refund. If eBay does nothing, you may have learned an expensive lesson... basically a '09-S MS63RB for 1K+.
On a side note... this seller (along with many others) sells nothing but salted rolls... and sells a lot of them with glowing positive feedback from less than knowledgeable collectors. I would lump these guys in with the snake oil salesmen on HSN and similar venues. For years, CT members have warned against buying these... and it would be beneficial to heed their warnings.
eBay at this point will not help. The time limit for filing a SNAD has passed. Your only other choice is to try a charge back through your cc company - assuming you USED a cc (recommended procedure is to use a cc through PayPal).
I dont get it. for 1000.00 why would you just buy a real nice 1908 s and 1909 s cent graded by pcgs. I dont understand why people like buying coins this way.
They do have an extended timeline policy, and will often initiate this when dealing with coins that need to be certified. eBay is well aware of the time delay caused by TPG's and will make exceptions to their 30 day policy when coins are deemed counterfeit.
For the same reason they buy coins on HSN, or at a flea market, or Craig's List... thinking they're getting a true bargain, or gambling on the hope that this "unsearched" roll is full of '09-S-VDB's. In numismatics, hope is a dangerous thing.
Next time you're tempted to by an "unsearched" roll, put 2+2+2 together http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-FRB...ll-Coin-Wrap-Penny-Wrapper-Tube-/151189448750 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Twist-n-Cri...593?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4ac86ec949 http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-LBs-Of-Wheat-Penny-CULLS-/191031170440?hash=item2c7a585588
Unfortunately Vegas Vic, you will not be the last person to be taken on one of these "unsearched rolls" deals on eBay and craigslist.com. These are usually a scam as the rolls a lot of times contain various dates, and they were certainly searched by the seller before listing them. I personally wish eBay would prohibit these types of auction/BIN listings as they are really deceptive to buyers. The description states, "Up for auction is what looks like an old bank wrapped roll from “BANK OF AMERICA San Francisco". The wrapper doesn't look all that old to me.
