I think they graded it AU 55 for the hairlines, which I believe are related to die polish (which gives it the proof like appearance IMHO). I would have originally thought AU 58-MS 61. It was a great deal at $450.
We do not find a lot of US coins for sale here outside ASE's, so I bought this commemorative half when I saw it. Very nice ship design.

Unfortunate that the coin did not gain much popularity. Wonder why? I think it was the first US commemorative.
