Alright, so last night I did a buy it now for a 1883-CC GSA Morgan on eBay. I tried to pay instantly and it said "This recipient is currently unable to receive money."

So I was thinking alright, maybe PayPal is having problems, or the guy entered his e-mail address incorrectly, so I contacted him and told him of the problem. He wrote me back and said it should be all fixed now. I jump on eBay, he has marked the item as paid, even though I didn't pay for the item. So I unmark it as payment sent, and try to submit the payment, and now this is what I get....

The following critical errors have occurred

    • Sorry, you are neither the buyer nor the seller for this transaction. Only the buyer or the seller can access this page.
    ummmmmm???
    WTH?

He has low feedback, and has never sold anything else on eBay, so I'm not really sure if it's a scam(by the pictures I'm going to say no, they're not good at all, and I'd think a scam would have good pictures) or if ebay is just having problems... I'm waiting for him to just ask to send payment via PayPal or money order, which I won't do.

Anyone ever have any problems like this before?

Pick up the phone and call PayPal. They really will try to help and not cut off you head.

I am sorry to hear that. Here is a thought. When you become a seller, after originally setting up a buyers account on Ebay, your PayPal account needs to be adjusted to be able to accept payment. The seller may have not realized this and now he has a mess on his hands.

I deal on eBay every single day. I would stay away from anyone under 100 rating when dealing with big ticket higher end items such as this. Always check recent feedback before buying.

You take a chance with zero feedback sellers.... not that they aren't honest, it's just that they're on the beginning end of the learning curve. How does the transaction show in your "my eBay" page (purchase history)? If the item is there, then you're good. If it isn't there, check the actual auction page.. it should say "you bought this item" and it will show you as the buyer. Also, eBay sends an email to you for every item you buy (or win). Did you get one? Included in that email is a link to pay.

Never pay for an item other than through PayPal, and only through eBay's system. Otherwise you lose all buyer protection, which means you'll lose your money.

So you cannot pay him, yet are concerned it could be a scam? Not really something to worry about unless he asked to be paid in a suspicious way, and from your description, this has not happened. It's likely nothing, especially if he is a new seller, so just have a little patience and work with him to get this straightened out.

As for not buying from someone with less than 100 feedback, it would be wise to remember that everyone has to start somewhere. Caution is, of course, fine, but should also be used no matter who the seller is; by simply by speaking with someone you can see how they carry themselves and get a feeling for their character, which is likely a better way to gauge respectability than using a infinitely flawed feedback system. With the protections and ebay's extreme pro-buyer attitude, the risk associated with low feedback sellers is minimal.

He figured it out, I was able to make the payment via eBay.

Can't wait to get my second CC I bought this week!
