Just thought I would throw out a topic here- What is the most sought after graded Morgan for right around $500? I know what the books say as far as values, but that is not always consistent with demand/popularity.

So, if you had $500 for a graded Morgan which one would you buy?

An MS65 semi-key date that trends in that range. I would rather get that than a lower grade 1881-cc or 1885cc.

1881CC or 1885cc in MS 64. Those are around $500 or perhaps $600.

I'd like to know where you can get a 85cc in 64 for $500. All of the ones I have watched on Ebay go for $700+.

I have an 1881CC at MS64, but not the 85CC though I am currently in the market for one!

A ms 64 81 cc a ms 65 common date cc or a common date in 66 or 67 or something in outrageous toning I've bought a lot of nice Morgan's for around $500 actually

That's a hard question to answer without knowing your tastes . I'd probably go for an '81 or '85 CC just to go with my GSA Morgans of '82, '83 and '84 CC coins .

I bought three of them for that amount. Just look and watch. Ebay isn't necessarily your best bet.

    Precisely. Quit looking on ebay.

More often than not, ebay is going to be the more expensive place to buy.

I agree your more likely to find a better deal from either a major coin auction who handle millions of dollars of quality coins or a quality coin dealer than on ebay simple reason they handle lots of coins and it's about volume whereas someone on ebay may sell 1 or 2 81-cc Morgan's a year ths major auctions sell hunderds

I picked up my 80, 81, and 85 cc coins in GSA holders from large dealers. They were NOT $700 each. It takes patience and the ability to cherry pick. There are some bargains on Ebay, but with the seller fees, they are fewer than in the past. Lots of junk on Ebay, so not the place for beginners either.

I keep hearing that Ebay is not really the best place. I have looked at Heritage, but with the extra fees it looks like you end up paying more.

In 65 or higher, right? 63 and 64 for those dates I can find for under $300.

81, 82, and 83cc go for way lower than $300 in 64. GSAs graded by NGC go for around $225-250 tops. Those are the easy dates.

I know. I picked up an 1884 GSA NGC MS63 for $215 recently.

Read my PM on some places that are good sources of quality Morgans. :)

I meant that I have the '82 ,'83 and '84 GSA Morgans I bought in the GSA sales . I need the '80 ,'81 and '85 to make a short set . It would have been complete if I could find any of those dates for $300 in 65 .
