It's been awhile since I've posted here... With all the problems with their weekly auctions, I still managed to get this amazing Morgan toner for what I thought was a very decent price. The first set of pics are theirs (Stacks), the next set is mine. Can't beat the combo of magenta and blue-green plus the luster is great! You really can't see all that in their pictures, except for some of the color. PCGS MS-65 (in a pre-doily holder I believe):
Not to talk negatively about that lovely coin, but I strongly disagree with the grade. They must have given it a couple of point bump for its eye appeal.
I agree as well, (what looks to be) a nasty ding on Liberty's cheek would knock it down to a 63 or 64 at best. However, there seems to be a discrepancy between the auction photos and the OP's photos, so maybe the ding and the scuffing in the obverse fields are overexaggerated in the OP's photos (or conversely, underexaggerated in the auction photos). But that's beside the point, the toning is gorgeous. Time for me to find myself some toners now on their site!
In my photo, the ticks are greatly exaggerated, and the spots on the cheek are toning spots, and the ticks are small. Of course blowing it up really does bring up those flaws.
That was what I was wondering I couldn't tell if the mark on the cheek was a rub or toning if the cheek is clean a solid 65 usually those green label Morgan's are pretty solidly graded
Funny thing about your collection, Elmer. You and I must have similar tastes and budgets, as I have been the underbidder on quite a few of your toners LOL - but not this one. FWIW, I agree with grade on the label.
