It was started by a fantasist loony nutjob who got banned from selling buying and posting on ebay.
He even got banned from his own group that he started.
I would leave well, alone the remainder of the wanabee internet cops that run it now
are the saddest people on the planet IMO :D

I cannot really understand these posts due to grammar, spelling and vagueness. What are we talking about here gentlemen? Pretend you are writing an essay for a college course.

Yep... eBay's self-appointed Gestapo group, the CFe group. Their sole mission is to protect us from our own stupidity. I remember when they actually did some good, and anyone could read their posts. Then paranoia set in, and they took the group private, purging their membership to the "chosen few". Now CoinSergeant and the rest of the gang operate in the nether world of numismatic secrecy, searching eBay listings in hopes of finding the elusive fake, whether it truly is or not.

We kind of touched on this subject before and I was a bit confused by your explanation of this group. I did a bit of searching and now I understand why. It's because it is not the same group that I was talking about.

This CFe group was indeed founded by private individuals who wanted to do it, and apparently anybody that wanted to could join this group. And they used to publicly post their discussions on both ebay and Yahoo.

The group that I was talking about in our previous discussion was put together by ebay itself and 100% private. And it was formed years before CFe even existed. And only way to become a member of that group was to be invited to be a member of the group by the ebay staff. They, ebay, had a screening process they used and they only invited people they checked out in advance, and checked references, to make sure the person they were inviting was qualified to do the job. And they did all this without the person they were going to invite even being aware that they were checked out.

Only then would they send an email to the invitee and ask them to work for ebay on a volunteer basis to help control fraud on ebay by identifying fakes that were listed as being genuine coins. Once invited a prospective member of CCW had to accept the invitation. He was then sent paperwork by mail including a non-disclosure statement that he had to sign and get notarized. And then return them to ebay. Members of this group were forbidden from telling anyone that they were a member of this group. Their discussions and decisions were never public in any way. They operated completely behind the scenes. Members of the public knew this group existed, but that's all they knew.

The only reason I know all of this is because I was an early member of this group. The group had the authority to have auctions/listings pulled, but only after a consensus had been reached. And they had different groups, like one for certain US coins, one for other US coins, and one for world coins. Some were members of more than 1 group, some members of only 1 group. In the beginning they did a lot of good. But I resigned when it became clear to me that, well let me just say, that I would never see eye to eye with some other members of the group.

To the best of my knowledge the CCW still exists. Its membership is still private and held secret.

The Coin Community Watch group still exists, shrouded in a veil of mystery... lurking in the shadows to pounce upon any c0in listing they believe to be detrimental to the community. Here's an older thread from the eBay coin forum discussing this secret organization:

It's good to be back. :D

I submitted to the group for being added but I've never received an invite and the reason I wanted access is I need a certain post made by one of the members. There was information on that post that I cannot remember and getting access to the group again is the only way I can get it. :(
