I picked up a low grade (probably G4) 25D Buffalo with the die rotated approximately 45 degrees, did not pay above bid. Does this carry any premium? If not, how much rotation does there need to be for the coin to be considered an error? I realize that older coins are more likely to have rotation than coins produced with modern minting techniques.

    Probably not.
Generally the rotation needs to be 90° or more before a premium kicks in.

It more than likely just has a lot of cool factor and personality to add to your collection. ^.-

Die rotation by itself doesn't have a fixed value to it. The age, type and condition of the coin also comes into play. It's a combination of factors that apply. I this case, the G4 grade is working against you.

die rotations of 15 to 45 degrees are common on nickels. They don't carry a premium.
