I suspect that might be a factor, but only to someone who is doing a top shelf registry set. Those guys pay way stupid money for things......

but at least the raw coin should go over $100.00 a piece. even the proof one should follow.

Only if folks are rushing out to buy 'em in the aftermarket and I don't believe that's happening.

To add to the above comments: The total sold reflects the demand. They didn't limit the mintage; therefore, I would say demand will be low. I agree an 70 will carry a premium for the registry set buyers, but I can't see the overall series escalating in price much.

All (most) of the prior issues with similar mintages are selling in the over $100 range in any grade - so yeah, this one should be a winner. To add to the value, this year (2014) the only half dollar will be the baseball, which should see brisk sales, so the 5 star should enjoy the lowest mintage status for a couple years or more. Of course there are still a couple days of sales that haven't been reported, so will the 5 star maintain its status as the lowest mintage? Probably.

Check the recent sales for them over on e-bay. Graded ones have sold for $35 in the last few days. I can't see this coin going much higher........

We'll see, I was buying graded 69's last week for $23 and the week before that for $16. Since it appears to be the lowest mintage, definitely worth speculating on.

Don’t forget, even though the individual option showed sold out before the last sales report, the unc half dollar was still available in the 5 Star Generals Profile Collection for 2 days after the last sales report. As of the last sales report (12/29/2013), the unc half sales were 1,494 lower than the army half. The next sales report comes out this Tuesday, 1/7/2014, which should report the final unaudited sales.

Coin World, quoting Michael White, from the mint, reported today that 38,097 unc 5 Star General halves were sold. If that number doesn’t increase, it will be the lowest modern half mintage.
