How much do coin dealers usually pay for common date indian head pennies? I know they usually pay around 3 cents for wheats but what should I generally expect for indian head pennies.
the dealers around here are low ballers, one offered me $.05 each.... I sold mine on eBay in groups of 20-25, got roughly $.50-.85 each. I sold like 5 or 6 different lots, so the prices varied.
I have been offered a deal buy bank wrapped half rolls from an individual for $25 (25 cents is a half roll) so $1 each.He does not collect coins, and got them at an estate auction a few years ago. I just wanted to know whether I could recoup my money if they all turn out to be common dates.
Well, if the group of low grade coins has enough culls or damaged pieces in it then 25-cents per coin might be fair, but if the group is largely problem-free and averages around G4 for condition then 40-cents or 50-cents per coin might be fair.
While it may differ from dealer to dealer, for low end generics anywhere near a buck each would be quite doing well. It is probably best not to assume more than $0.25-$0.50 each, and this is if they will buy them all or at all. Questionable or not, it's one thing if you're willing to gamble $25 and don't care about the outcome, but if you need to worry about recouping your money...
