I have a two-headed nickel with two different years on each side. It feels and looks real. Its weight feels right. I am curious as to know if it is in fact real, then what is its worth?
If you are new to the forum welcome. It is nice to get that first post out of the way. I am sure someone will answer your question.
critter: welcome, and you can pretty much assume that it is a magician's coin, with the exception of one double headed Indian head cent that has been certified.
The link is broken in the first post of the thread Speedy referred to, so try this one. If you think about it, there is no physical way for the mint to produce a coin with two different year obverses. When the dies for the later of the two years went into service, the dies for the earlier date were no longer in use.

There is a few more than that - Great Rarities - 2 Heads or Tails. But I certainly agree with your primary point
