I just ordered a Monster Box, this is a first for me. My question is whether there is any reason to keep it sealed. My plan is to hold it for an extended period, does keeping it sealed make it more/less desirable down the line? Thanks from a newbie.

My opinion, but I don't think the fact that it's a monster box, opened or not, will raise or lower the price in the future, unless you sell it whole to someone hoping to find 70's in there. You might be able to get a small bump from it later by marketing it to the masses on eBay such as "from UNOPENED monster box, could be PERFECT 70 coins in there!". But, other than that I believe the appreciation of the bullion itself will dictate the majority of your eventual profit.

Personally, I would keep it sealed simply to aid storage concerns and also keep them from being exposed to air. The less it's opened and moved around, the less possible damage that could come to the coins. That, I believe, would be your best bet for making the most out of it later, keeping them in pristine condition and selling them to those who want to get them graded.

I would say if you want to open it up, you aren't going to hurt anything. You will make more of a premium down the road selling one at a time anyhow. Most people can't afford a monster box, let alone looking for a sealed one.

Send the whole lot to NGC and make gobs of money selling to people who go bonkers over a "70".

"70" Maples? 25 million estimated mintage for 2013, none graded 70 by NGC.

Would you mind shooting me or posting a link where I can find statistics like that? I have a couple graded coins I would love to see what their populations are. I only buy NGC graded coins, don't care for any other grading service.

I figure when/if I do sell it, it will be to a dealer. Thought it might make a difference in say ten years if it was never opened. Thanks.

Go to NGC website, click on NGC Research, and then on Census. It's good for few minutes, then it will lock up. For full access you will need to sign up to the NGC Collectors Society, it's easy and free.
