Can someone name all the coins depicting indians?

I have started trying to read a book about the historical figure on the coins I collect. For example, I recently read Stephen Ambrose's "Undaunted Courage" to coincide with my collecting a full set of Lewis and Clark proofs and the Lewis & Clark commem.

I think in 2007 my goal will be to get a decent quality example of all the coins with Indians on them and read up on native americans.

I know of the Indian head penny, obviously the buffalo nickel and the sacagawea.

Can any of you pros tell me of any other U.S. coins that depict native americans? (that would be reasonably obtainable by a novice collector)?

    Thanks!

The Oregon Trail Commemorative is one of my favorites.

You can get one for around $150 to $200 (still not cheap, however) in a nice. BU grade...

Being part Apache indian myself you would think that someone like myself would know all of them...lol. The ones zaneman mentioned are the only ones I can think of also, although I'm sure there are more, possibly by private mints, that depict certain American Indian Chiefs. I'd have to look into that to be sure, although they're probably not a good investment but more of a novelty, if anyone does happen to make those.

Indianhead, there are some medal-coins that have been issued by various Native American nations. The Shawnee tribe is one of them.Such pieces can be found listed in Krause's 'Unusual World Coins'.

Canada has recently issued a medal-coin depicting Joseph Brant, who was a Native Canadian Chief.Of course, the 1958 Canadian silver Totem Pole $1 depicts a native theme.

Don't forget the Sacagawea $1 coin as well.

In the 12/5/06 copy of Numismatic News (p76) in an article about the new Newman Money Museum (St.Louis) , there is a description of some of the displays, one of which is Native Americans on Money.
they have a contact number of (314) 935-9595. Maybe they could help.

Sorry, the Indian Head cent does not count. The 'Indian' is actually a portrayal of Liberty wearing a headress.

Not here to be bonehead, and I like what you are doing but, just so you know and don't get into an embarrassing situation somewhere, the Indian head cent is a depiction of a European Miss Liberty wearing a headdress. Also the St Gaudens $10 eagle I believe is the same idea. Check out some of the older currency too. There is a note with Chief Onepapa on it! By all means, have fun in however you want to collect. Thats what the hobby is for!

Using that logic, then the Sacagawea dollar is the only coin with an Indian, plus, possibly, the composite person on the Indina head nickel.
