Hi Folks. New here and back into collecting after 15 years or so. Been going through coins I've had in storage and came across a few foreign coins that I'm having no luck identifying. Trying to figure out if in fact these are coins or some kind of keepsake. I believe my sister in-law brought these back from Japan when she was stationed over there. Thanks
They appear to be medals of some sort, but I don't know what the oriental markings mean. Maybe someone who can translate them for you will chime in. Chris
Images IMG_0841.JPG and IMG_0842.JPG look like: CHINA. Kirin. Fantasy 1/2 Tael Number 68 on this webpage: http://www.coinarchives.com/w/results.php?search=kirin&s=0&results=100 Whether yours is genuine someone else will have to determine.
take a look at the weapons of the characters here from the 80's TV series Monkey. They bear an uncanny resemblance to the reverse of the coin the OP shows. The guy in red is 'Monkey' as per the obverse. minus the tail.
