Not too sure if anyone collects pattern coins and I don't actively collect them. Turns out I bought a few along the way while I was hoarding all kinds of coins and decided to catalog what I had. Here's the link for it: http://gxseries.com/numis/pattern/pattern_coins.htm I personally like this low grade pattern coin struck in cannon metal. Must have been accidently released in circulation.
Is that Tigranes the Great on the Armenian coin? The rouble is outstanding - that should have been a regular issue.
Very great patterns everyone. Thanks for showing your collection. John Anthony - Tigran the Great did appear on a commemorative 14k gold coin in 1994.
So what was that supposed to be(come)? Sure, I recognize the Santiago mintmark, but apart from that I am clueless ... Christian
It is a rare pattern minted (less than 20 specimens minted I believe) in order to change the copper 20 centavos (KM 177) to a cheaper aluminium version due to high copper export from Chile during ww2. It did not go into minting since the war ended and KM177 was minted through to 1953.
Those 1 stak patterns on your link sure do look just like Tigranes portrait. I am with John, I do believe they are showing Tigranes the Great, even if they do not say so.
