I am seeing 2006-p Silver Eagle Reverse Proof graded by PCGS PF70 going for over $1000.00 to me I think this is a little ridiculous. Is it really worth buying these at this price? What do you guys think?:rolling:
Well if it were a 2006-"P" reverse proof it would indeed be rare in just about any grade. Maybe you meant "W"?
No it is 2006-p here is the LInk http://cgi.ebay.com/2006-P-REVERSE-...4QQihZ006QQcategoryZ39488QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Yur right, I guess I was thinking of the regular proof. It's my own fault, I haven't even opened any of my sets yet so I haven't even seen them up close.
$1000. That is a lot of money for a common "coin-in-a-coffin". I'm going to sit back and observe for now. There is a lot of negative talk out there about the TPG's and their sudden over-abundance of "perfect" coins. Who knows. This may go the same way as the "first strike" controversy. I guess the TPG's are tired of being out-done and have decided to join the SGS "Give em all a 70" bandwagon.
Do not really look on Ebay but I have seen a NGC reverse proof 70 going for 1k lately from a dealer that i have purchased from . I decided to go with the 2006w 4 coin uncirculated gold set instead. Think PCGS tends to sell for a bit more.
I looked up the population of PR70's and PCGS is only giving about 10% a 70 so it is pretty low, with about 500 currently having a PR70 designation. 18% of the regular proofs from that set got PR70's by comparision. But is $1000 too much for one? Well, seeing as how you would possibly have to buy many raw sets to get one graded 70 it may not be, and there are other coins that have higher chances of a 70 than these coins. Still that is a lot of money, not sure it will go higher than that for some time.
I think all this 70 chasing is a fad. Reminds me of baseball cards in the late 80's. Prices going nuts, and then the fall. JMO Time will tell.
thought i would Check NGC pop. report on the rerverse proof. Currently they show 1,211 reverse proof 70's and 9,696 in the 69 grade. That is fairly close to 10% . I have seen these sets go from over 5k when they first came out to under 2k in the sets as more 70's became available. from what i have seen, the raw ungraded, unopened sets from the mint are selling very close to what the 69 sets are selling for. (tv dealers not included). One has to think that most of the sets that are going to be certified have been so and we may be seeing close to the total number of 70 reverse proofs. I can only see the lower and 69 graded sets going higher and will therefore push the 70 sets higher. I agree it is an expensive piece of plastic but like the first strikes , first issue, first whatever , there will always be people who have bucks to burn who do not mind spending them if they think they are getting something special. This is just my opion and i do not pretend to be an expect . as stated in here also "only time will tell"
I agree but rest assured someone else will be dumb enough to pay even more for it in a few years. That's the way this game works. I was lucky enough to get quite a few 70's with my submissions so I'm just sitting back and watching my profit margin grow. Let's see ...cost $60.00 ..price today $1,000 ...hmmm profit of $940 on just one coin. Not bad. Yeeee haw
The long and short of it... NO. It is not worth that. There were far too many coins minted to be worth that, even in a PF70 grade. If you'd like a slabbed example, get yourself a PF-69. It will be just as nice and you won't pay near as much. Or, find yourself a boxed mint set to buy. That's what I've got and I love it!
One point to realize - you haven't made 2 cents on the coin, until you actually sell it. Until that happens, you are talking about maybes. Something else you should realize, values for these 70 coins often drop to a fraction of their early values after a year or two.
OK...I admit it...I'm confused.... I thought the Reverse Proofs had the W mintmark..... Am I wrong, or are there TWO versions of the Reverse Proof? God helps those that help the confused! FloridaBill
FloridaBill Here are the various products from the ASE series in 2006 Normal proof, 1 version, W Reverse Proof, 1 version, P Uncirculated with W mintmark Uncirculated with no mintmark
