and so far my only 15th century coin. byzanticlause brought me this one for christmas! can't get a good obverse pic sorry. giovanni maria visconti (duke of milan) duchy of milan ar grosso 1402-1412 o: st. ambrose r: biscione, a seal of the visconti. i thought this was a snake breathing fire, but it's a snake eating a man! neat! here's the seal in stone from the wikipedia page on milan.. interesting wikipedia article on st. ambrose, of interested to the ancient collectors considering his dealings with many of the roman emperors. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Ambrose looks like his skull is still in milan at the basilica he built. please feel free to post any coins from milan, the 15th century...or anything else tangentially related.
Nice coin, Chris! I am hoping Santa Clause makes a stop by my house tonight on his way to the north pole.
Nice, and brutal. In any case, a great piece with a good story! Here is an Ambrosino from the Ambrosian Republic (Milan, 15c). Not mine of course ... Christian
