Susan, As a dealer I can tell you first hand that there is plenty of negative attitudes that must be overcome. Unfortunately there are many more people out there in the world that only concern themselves with their profit margins. This is certainly not limited to Ebay. Overcoming this attitude towards the general perception is only done through positive means. Taking the time for interviews, writing articles, and participating in coin clubs and other numismatic arenas will go a long ways to seperate you from the pack. I admire your willingness to help clean up Ebay. For many years, I have kept my firm out of that market from a lack of desire to be associated with them. The steps that the ANA has taken are only a small start. It will take dealers such as yourself and Tradernick to lead by example. Pointing out the bad will only bring more attention to it. Instead let me offer this advice. When doing an interview, focus on the positive aspects. Direct the conversation towards the efforts in establishing guidelines and the big picture of what can be. Never allow your goals to be compromised. You have joined a long hard task. Change is never easy, and seldom is it quick. Do what you can to set yourself apart from the pack. Honesty and great customer service will shine through. Start and maintain a positive dialog. Turn your attention to providing the positive experience for all your customers. Always remember that your involved in the greatest hobby in the world. Promote that side of the business, and you will reap the benefits.
Thanks, ND. It's for posts such as this one that you were so sorely missed. I have already emailed Jeff Starck that I will do the interview and I plan to conduct it exactly as you described. There are many positive aspects that can be focused on while still being truthful about the shortcomings of the venue and discussing what needs to be done. All I can do is my best.
