ya'll need to buying test kits this is serious to your collection health ya'll need to buying test kits
How would a testing kit help with this fake bar? It appeared to be plated/coated with silver. You'd have to cut it like they did to see inside....
These bars are actually very easy to detect. Genuine bars do not come in a hard plastic case like the ones in the video. The case hides the dimensions of the bar, makes the owner not want to open the case and inspect the item and compensates for the size difference of these bars vs genuine ones. Notice if you put an authentic bar inside of the hard case videoed it will rattle around. These fake bars are much thicker than the genuine ones. These bars have been around for the past few months. When buying a large lot of silver it may be worth filing a sample of the bars to make sure they are genuine.
For a non-bar buyer, this is very helpful information. Thank you! I think this is one reason why I don't buy bars. Do you folks think bars are more commonly faked, or rounds?
No, I have seen fake Washington quarters and several morgans. The magnet test is the best way to tell. The crazy part is that I have shown sellers their coin is fake any they don't believe me or offer to drop the price by a few bucks. I have about 100 of these magnets for $5 each shipped if anyone wants one.
There is a much easier solution. If you only buy bars, or coins, from respected and trusted dealers, then you don't need to worry about test kits or possible fakes.
