Myself, I'm hoping for a Kennedy set this year, but my hope is fading - I think if they were gonna do something like that we'd have sniffed a whiff of it by now....

I thought the Mint was going to have a special set for the 50th anniversary of his assasination. Maybe someone else can chime in, but I'm pretty sure a special set is planned.

They've done enough surveying that they know there is an interest so I'm fairly sure they will have a special Kennedy set. But they have the whole year yet to decide what and when to release it. Just because we having heard any details yet doesn't mean it isn't coming.

I hope you're right...I'd think they'd give it some advance publicity. But then again, this is the US Mint... LOL!

I HOPE they come up with some tasteful designs. If they do, I'll be buying the set.

I doubt there will be any "Tasteful designs" because, even though the Sec of the Treasury can change the designs, they would feel they had to get Congressional approval and there really isn't time for that. (Especially since no legislation has even been submitted yet.) What you will see will be special finishes etc.

A reverse proof, or different levels of frosting on the coin, would be interesting. I'm not a Kennedy Half Dollar collector but I would buy a commemorative set if they did this. I have all the silver reverse proofs from the American Eagle series. This would expand the collectables for this type of finish.

That link certainly covers all the options, even though an actual decision hasn't been announced.

Our Coin club orders a unopened Green monster box(500 coins) or two every year and the members get how many they want, we locked in the price at $24 ea., one member is buying a whole unopened box all by his self..if i'm there when the get it i'll post pictures..

I use to eagerly anticipate the next years coins, but after a couple months when everyone has them, it newness wears off, and they are just like all the other eagles.

the mint even said they are taking a break from "special" sets for a while. at least for ASEs. I usually buy my ASEs later after the initial frenzy dies down. lots of time.

I was referencing the 2014 "Bullion" no mint mark version that you can order from the bullion dealers (AMPEX, Aydin) etc. The lowest I found so far is $24 per coin if buying 2 or more and the they get lower the more you buy.

I agree the HSN's, etc. are already gearing up for new years eve shows, I bet they sell a 2014 ASE, showing a 2013 in the ANACS slab. I laugh every time.

I'll get a MS70 and PR70 Ultra Cameo towards the middle of spring, once the newness goes away and they begin saturating the market. I always get the standard NGC ER blue label. I used to have three collections going at once; ungraded mint packaging, PCGS slabbed and my current NGC slab's. That was just redundant, so I sold most of the first two mentioned.
