    Omega

Can anyone give me a tip on how to buy an Omega 1907 ultra high-relief.

I appreciate them for the simple artistic value. However, I never really see anyone selling these.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Hi LMSD sorry to have to say I have absolutly no idea as to where you might get one from but I am sure that someone will come along and let you know :D Very knowlagable this lot. Also have to say I would be a bit worried about buying one as It might just be a forgery LOL

I've given your inquiry its own thread, where it much more likely to be seen by someone who can help you than as a tagalong to another thread.

Are you asking about the fake St. Gaudens double eagle?

Good luck, and [IMG] to CoinTalk.

Exactly. I am looking for the ultra high relief.

From what I have learned the Omega Man has done other coins as well. But the 1907 is the most famous. I would think there would be at least a couple hardcore fans of his?

    The Omega Man (counterfeiter)
"The Omega Man" is the name given to a counterfeit coin producer who signed his creations with a minute Greek letter omega. He is believed to have created over 20,000 fake 1907 ultra high-relief US$20 gold Double Eagle coins. His forgeries are of such high quality that collectors will still pay upwards of $1,000 for one, compared to a genuine coin's value of about $50,000 to $100,000. The identity of The Omega Man is still unknown.

Does anyone know when this guy was in operation. I remember reading about him years ago (probably Coin World or Numismatic News) but don't remember the details.
Also, is he known to have produced any other dates or types?
    Very Interesting!

The 1883 $3 Liberty is one example. Here is a discussion and photo (I can not make out the omega sign- not high enough resolution in the pic)

However, I think many people throw around the "Omega" term to much. I dont believe the coin in the above thread is one of Omega's......There are too many "spacing" issues that I see in this fake.

Omega's are suppose to be EXACT duplicates except for the Omega signature.

If this current thread we just started developes, it may be one of the leading sources on the net on the subject, because I can not find very much!

The Omega counterfeits were identified by ANACS back in the early 1970's and probably date from around that time. It wasn't a case of ANACS getting in the occasional high relief and eventually realizing they were counterfeit (High reliefs don't come in all that often.) Instead suddenly the number of high reliefs submitted increased suspiciously so they began close inspections of multiple pieces at the same time and discovered the forgery.

you must be careful as Omega's works are still sought and seized by the SS (secret service)
