I got this nickel out of pocket change and after close observation I noticed the Mink Mark is Off. I looked at various photos of normal 1986D nickels and none of the mint marks are in this position. What kind of error is this? The first photo is a reference photo Also what going on at the top of Jeffersons head?
One thing to know is that the mintmark was hand-punched into the working die up until the early 90s, so you will find coins with mintmarks in various positions that were struck by different dies. That aside, all I see on your coin is die deterioration.
I have a nickel with the same thing as to where the D is positioned I have not found any other nickels with the D that far tilted almost parralel with the edge it seems somewhat rare
