For Steve and our other Canadian members, someone should post a modern foreign coin. Who has a buffalo nickel?
I think someone posted a buffalo nickel already but here's the nicest one I have. From my grandfather's accumulation which I now have. He pulled old coins from his cash register every night (was a druggist). This was in the 1930's-60's. I have over 2000 buffs Most of them are very worn. Can't bring myself to part with any of them but I probably should thin the herd. I do give some of them away now and then.
I've got one of those Italian ones (on top) in UNC with pink and purple toning. Got to show it when I get a chance.
I don't have many animal coins, but here are my favorites: Two rare coins from the post-Roman Ostrogothic Kingdom (493 - 553 AD). The follis depicts an eagle on the reverse and on the half-follis a female wolf (suckling the twins Romulus and Remus). Both were struck in Rome. A bronze coin of the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. The two eagles represent the joint rule of the brothers Ptolemy VI and Ptolemy VIII.
Yes, a coin that is not commonly seen. KM# 1185 Iran 50 RIALS SH1350-1971 Proof. I bought it of a bullion dealer in Vancouver for like 15 US or something. Also have a strange colour toning for a silver coin.
