Oh my, eh? => I'm feelin' all four of these babies!! Antoninus Pius Æ drachm Roman Egypt (Alexandria) 138-161 AD Year 17 Diameter: Weight: Obverse: Reverse: Bust of Sarapis right above eagle facing Reference: Other: brown patina, small flan => please feel free to post your sweeties too!!
Damn you have been busy. That may be the biggest I have ever seen A. Pius' head. He looks as thick necked as the Flavians on this coin.
Another great coin, Steve, congratulations! Don't see too many forward-facing eagles on ancients. Great catch!
very cool eagle with serapis above...i love those dated coins. dated animal coins, double score. here's my last eagle..
Hey, thanks again for the coin-kudos, gang ... man, I really do love you coin-dudes (I appreciate all of your coin feedback, good or bad ... ummm basically, you guys are my coin sounding-board ...and I owe you for that) ... big-time!! Cheers, my coin-friends
You have good taste in coins, steve. I am amazed at all the new coins you are posting. And Chris, that is a very appealing Septimius Severus. Where was it minted? Here is a nice forward facing eagle. Antoninus Pius, Antoninian. Posthumously struck under Trajanus Decius.
Here's a strange-looking eagle. More like a funky chicken standing on an ostrich egg. Marcus Aurelius sestertius.
Wow => fantastic coins, gang!! TIF, I love that sweet lookin' Eagle-Sestertius!! Please keep 'em coming, comrades!!
My favorite eagles are from Agragas and a hungry bunch they are. I wish I could show you the dekadrachm from my collection but I'm few million short for one.
I love the Akragas eagles as well but unfortunately the dekadrachm is out of my reach. However, I did recently pick up this tiny obol (weighing in at a not-so-hefty 0.8grams). Considering its size - about 12mm in diameter - I'm very impressed by the engraver's ability to execute this complicated two eagle design:
Amazing coins, fellas ... even yours is kinda nice, AncientJoe obviously, I'm merely jealously-kidding!! => that's a pretty fricken amazing looking coin!!
Shut the front door! Holy cow, I have not seen this denomination before and am also astonished by the detail on that tiny coin. OK, AJ-- I always admire your coins but for some reason this is the first one that has made me feel jealous. Maybe because it is a type I might be able to afford? (edit: checked various archives... wrong... that tempers the jealousy a bit ) I do have an AE Akragas eagle/crab, although the eagle requires a little imagination. I like it anyway. From the TIF's Folly mixed lot. And an AE Syracuse eagle which I have not yet fully attributed, also from that mixed lot: I'll spare you from having to see my umpteen Ptolemaic eagles
