I don't see much evidence of a repunched mintmark, but maybe that's just me...

Larry, could you take a photo of the edge of the coins to be sure they are not replated. Anyone looking for DD, RPM. etc. should automatically check the edge to be sure the steel core is visible ( replating covers it up). The reason is that replating was usually done without a good cleaning and blobs of corrosion or zinc rot on the surface would be covered by new zinc plating, but the beneath junk would tend to raise the surface, or make doubling effects stronger. In the 60's there were many firms that would replate the 1943 cent. It is fairly common for collectors to not notice this, but such removes any value. A fellow collector sent in hundreds in the late 60s and they are probably still circulating among collectors.

I am not saying yours are, because I can't see the edge, but it would make things easier if we knew. And welcome to the forum.

I agree, they look original. As to the coins so far, #1 I do not see evidence of a RPM. , #2 Perhaps there was once a 'D' there, but I see no way of anyone being sure by the photo. If the actual coin has the same 'randomness' I would call it PMD of one sort or another. Coin #3 if the rims are OK, it could be late die erosion, but the most likely areas ( the edges of the devices, letters and numbers ) don't tend to show much. If the rims are plated also ( re plate) , it is from replating a corroded coin.

Larry, If you are referring to the coins in this thread, I think it would not be a good use of the money. I am not saying to spend them., label them and put away and learn. There are multitudes of threads on this site which you can search ( box at top of right hand side of page) and read the comments and study them. Most all of us have ( or had) coins from early days which were sent in and came back with problems. Few coins are actually worth sending in financially and patience is a key to learning and knowledge :) If you do decide to send cents in, PCGS and NGC produce about the same financial outcome. NGC tends to grade my exact same cents a grade higher MS-65 say, whereas PCGS ,MS-64, but many seem to know this and pays about the same. Unless it is a variety that PCGS or NGC doesn't authenticate, I would stay away from the other TPGs. Jim

I am not really a jeweler, but am a faceter ( Although I have not had the time recently to do much of it except accumulate rough ). I came out of retirement to teach a semester of full load science this fall and it ended this week :)
