Happy Day! I have been looking for the Dansco 7020 Mexico Type Set Album for well over a year. It was discontinued a long time ago. I only saw it once on eBay and missed it because my phone went blank when I tried to bis. It went for $140 and I was going to bid $160. I have checked every dealer at coins shows I have attended and Googled repeatedly trying to find one for sale. The only place I was able to find was the Mexican version of eBay, Mercado Libre, but could never figure out how to register. I don't speak Spanish. I walked into my LCS today to pick up some supplies and found this on his bargain table for $10! Only problem is someone marked it up with a Marks-A-Lot. I didn't care, I'll find a way around that. Maybe a q-tip and acetone or maybe just make my own labels to cover. Anyone else have any experience to removing this kind of markings or suggestions? My dealer said he had the book in the back for several years and didn't think he could sell it. Sold to the man with a $10 bill, me.

Hey nice pick up, i worked in a grocery store for many years, we used black markers to price things out during the holiday's, if it didn't sell we would use a can of woman's hair spray on it to take off the black markers, i would take out the clear slides, spray a paper towel or a q-tip and wipe the spot were there's a mark, stay away from the dates, it might take them off too!!!

I have the coins, just didn't have the album. As soon as I get it relabeled, I will fill it up. This will be fun. Actually it ends with 1960 and I can take it all the way to now.

This will take a lot of work but it might look best. Scanned all of the pages as jpeg. Use photo software to clone out the marked areas and retype the data. Print out on colored paper as close to the original color as possible. Lay over and glue to the original page. I can't duplicate the original font but got close as I could. What do you think? Before and after.

So are you reprinting the whole page, or just a small section under the marked hole?

Whatever you did looks great because I cant tell it was reworked other than the type face

You know, it sounds ridicious but it makes you wonder why we can't even produce decent classical albums like what Dansco has produced. I believe these albums were last produced in 1960 - 70s. The other two albums that I have are Japan and Fiji.

I swear people are willing to spend good money just to buy a newer model of such albums. (Dansco are you listening?). That said, congradulations on finding such a rare album. Definitely interested in seeing the holes being filled.

I would love a Mexican type album as well as a Caps and Rays Peso album

Entire page. Every page in the book has been marked up. If you have a Dansco you will see that the paper is not very thick. I think if I am careful and place the new page over the old it will not be noticeable. I could rework all of the type to make it match. I am off work on STD until April anyway, this would be a good project. Why someone marked up this album mystifies me. It is unused.

Try hairspray on a towel and rub it off. It worked to remove sharpie marker from my cotton pants! Also, I've removed permanent black marker using a DRY-ERASE marker to trace over tha top, and then use a cloth to erase it (you know, a whiteboard marker?). The problem is, it might remove the color from the page. Try a test area first.

And by the way, it doesn't seem that Dansco listens to anybody. Me and several other people I've talked to have inquired with Dansco about various topics regarding their products. No reply. Not one. Right now, the entire Dansco staff is probably sitting on a beach in Mexico with their toes in the sand and a drink their hands: The company takes the entire month of December off.

Uhh.....yeah, I'd be included in that target market. I'd get taken advantage of pretty easily!

I like Dansco binders and pages because I think they're the most durable that I've seen. I also like the colors better than others, too.

    Hey, have you seen this?:

So, there ARE albums out there for us "Less Commonly Collected Coins" collectors, but they're not exactly what I like. This Korean album (link above) is nice in that the coins are in capsules, but the pages are kind of too "floppy" for me, and the "folder" presentation isn't what I like. And they don't look as "dignified" or sturdy as Dansco. I've also seen albums for modern Iraq and Jordan coins, but they were made trying to look too much like Whitman's.

    Are these all virtual albums?

I want to do one for my type-set, but am working on the photography part first

mlov43 - I have seen those albums and I don't like them as well. There is a Chinese coin album that I bought recently that features all regular Chinese coins issued since 1991. Very impressive and colorful and the coins all have individual capsules but the shear weight and size of the album just marks it down big time . Will take photos of them.

Treylxapi47 - yes, all of them are virtual albums. It's good enough to look similar to what a final product may possibly look like if it ever goes ahead. The beauty of this is that you can rearrange to however you like as well as whatever script / language you want to put on it as well as changing the background. But setting it up was the most difficult of all. There is a reason why I haven't been active making various coin albums since each album takes easily in terms of hours as I have to plan ahead, take good photos, align each pixels to ensure symmetry, measure dimension of the coins or research about them etc - extremely painstaking. This is what it takes to look as real as possible. Might as well change the background and text just for the sake of it.

I have the blue version of this album. I bought it on Ebay maybe 6 years ago, about half filled. I just bought it for the coins, but admit it looks nice filled. It doesn't have a gold page, though, which sucks since I have most Mexican Type gold already. I think all I am missing in a 2.5 peso.

I don't know anything about the album but kudos on finding one. You should be able to use your qtip acetone method without a problem. I do this all the time. So hard plastic surfaces dont hold up well against the Acetone but you really shouldnt have a problem removing those marks. Good luck coin bro!
