    No, it's machine doubling. On cents before 1990, if you see the same doubling in the date and mintmark it's MD.

    so there is no such thing as a 1955 double die?

    What about FS-01-1955D-101 DDO ? I have a couple, not too expensive, but nice as often BU or close.

    Of course there are such things as 1955 doubled dies.
    Your coin just happens to not be one.

    As previously stated by dt menace, I believe your coin has some mechanical doubling.
