On craigslist, there is a "coin dealer" who states he is a lifetime member of the ANA (posts a huge symbol of a lit lantern with the letters ANA on it) in an effort to bring credibility to himself. The only problem is that this guy is breaking the Craigslist TOS rules everyday by posting multiple times and changing his phone number by adding a space in between one of the digits, a comma or something else to throw off Craigslist system from removing his posts automatically. He even posts about how honest he is and how the ANA has a code of ethics that coin dealers go by. The problem is that this guy is breaking the Craigslist rules all over the place. Does any here have thoughts on this?
He's creative, funny, ironic, a master marketer, & a jerk all wrapped up in one. Mr. ANA, we salute you!
Someone on CL not obeying the TOS? Really? No, it can't possibly be! I don't believe you one bit. If it is true, it has to be the first time ever. CL is an honest web site. I hope this guy doesn't sully its reputation.
What does the ANA rules have to do with CL rules? Do you have any proof he is trying to rip off coin sellers, or just assuming it because he is trying to get his name out there a little more than a free website like CL allows? Sorry, I just do not see anything wrong really. Now, if you can prove he is ripping off coin sellers or is NOT a member of the ANA, then I would report him to that organization. Just for the record, I am a member of the ANA, ANS, ONS and other organizations. There is not one of them that I would say that just because they are a member of that this will guarantee they will not rip you off. Heck, I have met dealers who are members of these and many other groups who are borderline shysters. Always educate yourself, take care of yourself, and try to not rely on outside organizations.
Still, I for one would not purchase from him. If he is playing games with them, he might do the same with me. My wallet stays in my pocket.
Just stay away from CL all together, too many crazies. Case in point: http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/08/justice/craigslist-thrill-killing/
meet at a bank or McD's... there's always a few people at each one of those. Did a CL trade this morning.... never had a problem before. Same guy this morning sold me stuff 2 years ago, as long as my ad is up there, I get calls.... including the people that know nothing about coins. Case in point 1898 Barber Quarter- Yes pictures are bad but you get the idea, not good details and damage. There were a few kind words from him sent to me that I'll spare CT as there are some youngsters on here, but basically he said I was low balling him saying it was only worth $5, which I even said I wouldn't be interested in... even after pictures of the Red Book, the Jan 2014 edition of coins, and a ebay listin that ended for $5 with free shipping showing him that I wasn't lying, he said my material is outdated, and I needed some new sources. This is his last response. So there are coins to be found on CL, only problem I've came across it the seller thinking because it's old it's worth $1,000.
Never been to Craigslist , sounds like I never will either . 83% + 27% = 100% ??????? Must be the new math .
Once in awhile I buy and sell on CL. Never had a problem. I've gotten some good deals but not with coins so much. I mean I've bought coins on CL but it's been awhile. The number one rule to remember about CL is it's only for face to face sales and don't respond to emails, ever.
That guy is a scammer I'm sure, no way could he be that stupid and I'm fairly confident that he is lying when he says someone appraised it for $750-$850. He is hoping to get lucky and convince someone with little knowledge of coins that its worth big money.
