Hi guys. Just got this one off of ebay today. I'll post some more pics when I get it in hand. What do you think it grades? I personally would venture a VF-30 or so but would welcome the opinions of others as well? There's also a cool "pre-cud" die crack at about 2 o'clock on the reverse. Is this common for the year, or is it a die marker for a certain die pairing/variety? Estimated value? (Not that it matters...I'm quite happy with it) Thanks, Simon
I'm not in front of my book but I just posted a 1838 that has a die crack on *9 that's N-4 R1, should be very recent in the US coins forum. Sorry, my did crack was on the obverse. The 38s are tough to find because there's so many of them. I'll take a look when I get home.
I'd say vf 30 not sure what's going on at 12 o clock on the reverse looks like damage to me the crud on the front almost looks like it will come off in water (hopefully) nice coin anyway
Nice '38! It's the late die state of the N-10 that develops into a retained CUD. The reverse is shared with the N-9 and N-14 close dates, but the reverse crack is unique to the N10. It's not rare- just cool. A VF coin with some damage.
