I know they are 2 different variety coins but which one actually looks better? Coin ending in 24 or in 68? View attachment 301532 View attachment 301533
I like the 68 better because of the eye appeal, even though the scratch on the reverse is distracting, the 24 coin has a lot of pitting on both sides and not attractive to me. Admittedly, I don't know much about this series.
Like the color of the heraldic eagle one better the small eagle is a better coin their both beauties in my opinion
#24: VF-35 #68: EF-40 potentially EF det While I really like the design of the top coin I'd have to go with the #68 as well. Must look absolutely gorgeous in hand.
I like 24. Has a nice smooth look to it. The toning on the 68 is WAY too distracting to me, some of the coin's detail is barely noticeable--all I see is blotches.
the reverse tho.... Honestly the pics make this coin very difficult to grade but I'm sure it's an EF. However, I'll say this, it has a shot at EF-45.
I find the reverse to be quite stunning, and somewhat agree about the photos, but keep the era/period in-mind and try not to confuse wear with certain "anomalies". Sorry to be vague, but until the OP reveals the grades, I felt it best. With that said, I still think you'll be surprised... or at least one of us will.
The coin ending in 68 is far higher in grade so this might not be a very fair comparison. It has a mint state, or darned close, obverse and likely a mint state, or darned close, reverse. However, it also has what appear to be adjustment marks on the reverse.
Well I'm definitely unfamiliar with these "anomalies". If I'm proven wrong I'd love to learn about them. I honestly haven't graded or even seen enough high-grade coins from this time period so I wouldn't actually be surprised if I'm completely off the mark. In fact I'm hoping I'm wrong now haha
In the post above (yours) is the answer to what the "anomalies" are. If you're unfamiliar, take a little time and see what is available on online... it is interesting.
