Are the scratches in the face if this from the mint since this is a proof set?

Ya it won't take away from the value, probably happened during
    Minting though

All that I see is an annealing hit on Kennedy's cheek. This occurs from a low striking pressure which is low enough so that all these marks, which typically come from the annealing process, are not removed by metal flow.

Any "scratchs" you might be seeing are probably on the mint cello since the "reeding" on these proof coins can be quite sharp and any movement of the coin within the cello can produce the scratches (on the cello).

    That makes sense.

    It's not a proof set, it's a mint set.

If you gently slide the coin arround inside the plastic, do the scratches move with the coin ?

Mint set is in the title Rick, but what he's showing (picture) is a proof set.

How can you tell Lee? Is there a difference between what you describe and what I perceive as just a scratched coin? And how do I tell the difference?

Correct. Sometimes I don't pay enough attention. Thanks.

I can't tell from your photo, but is the left-hand base of the "I" in LIBERTY missing? If it is, it's the Accented Hair variety.

That's a proof set. The mint sets had "different" plastic tokens.

Don't think so Chris. Blew it up and that marker appears not to be there.....
