Hey guys iv been trying to indetify a coin i have got. I found a coin identical to it on ebay just in silver. It is a 1887 Queen Victoria silver crown. The only problem is mine is in gold. It is identical to this in everyway except mine is gold not silver. Please guys i need help cause i cant find info on it anywhere. Thanks alot
to CoinTalk dudlite. What is the weight? A silver crown weighs 28.2759g. If yours matches that weight it could be a post-mint gold plate job.
I dont have a weighing device that accurate unfortuanetly. Um i could take a pic of it on my cell phone?(digital camera is broken)
I can tell you the pictures on the front. On front there is a guy on a horse with a dragon below. On the back a picture of victoria. It is gold, cerated edges and 1887 is the date
I think you may be right about the gold plate job. I found a box in my safe also. It says "22ct GOLD PLATE made in New Zealand. The company up top says New Zealand Chellenaft
looks like the second 1 with the same front as other http://www.goldsovereigns.co.uk/imag...eignobv240.JPG
I know it's easy to get confused, it's a permanent condition for me You made your other posts while I was trying to answer. Given what you said in the other posts, I am inclined to think that you have a reproduction
What i believe i have is a 1887 sovereign with a jubilee head. In 1887 they came out with the old head, young head and jubilee head, according to this site here: http://www.goldsovereigns.co.uk/forsaletypecollectionvictoria.html
A few years back i remember my grandparents saying something about have a sovereign so maybe this is it? Im not sure
Guys i believe i have found the exact coin i have. Here is the link. http://www.cruzis-coins.com/sovs/1887GB.html any values would be great
Eek just got more info. This coin has nothing to do with the case i found. My dad just got home from work and told be my grandfather dug up this coin in there garden in cornwall. =)
Well, it might be a sovereign. Best way to start out is to weigh the coin - you have that done at any jewelry shop. If the coin matches the specifications given on the link you posted - then it might be real. But it would require an in hand exam by an expert to say for sure. There are many counterfeits out there. As for value - bullion content.
Oh ok thanks so much for your help man. This is an awsome forum. Also if you feel up for it i have a box of over 200 old coins to go through I might make a new post, and as i go through them post the coins i need help with. =)
