Has anyone ever bought any graded coins from a bulk auction on eBay not knowing what your gonna get? Those auctions you get 5 coins for $50 graded and if you use the buy it now you get a free one? If so have you ever gotten anything worth anything?
Just throwing it out there to see if anyone has done it. I did it a couple times. Most things were newer coins but did get a few with a little value. I spent $100 and got about $250 worth of coins just according to pcgs price guide. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am not a fan of any posting on eBay that says things like, " Large collection, your purchase comes with X amount of each of these types of coins" I don't feel it's worth the risk as they would probably not send anything worth close to what you paid.
These are typically offered by dealers who have large quantities of difficult to move "stuff". The final sales price will dictate the "stuff" that they include in the box. They often make certain it appears to be a bargain to the buyer, but I have never seen a good deal by one of these buyers of this material.
I had a feeling that it was going to be something like this. Now, I'll take your word that PCGS guide lists the coins at $X value, but what do the same coins in the same grades actually sell for? Most all of such listings (including those of a higher dollar amount) are used to liquidate stagnant widget inventory or clear out the subs that didn't meet the hoped for level. Think of it this way: if you were an ebay seller, would you lot out coins for $100 if you could sell separately and bring in two and a half times the return? Instead of using PCGS guide (were the coins in PCGS plastic?), take a few minutes to search completed/sold ebay listings for the same coins in the same grade/plastic. Even though you may find a small difference (depending on the coins) in comparable individual sale totals, it almost certainly will not be anywhere near what you were thinking. Unless you just want inexpensive plastic, it is probably best to avoid such listings in the future.
I'm not OP, but I this is what came to mind when I read this thread. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Rare-Un...74?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item41766c1f7a just scroll to the description.
Ohh I agree I just did it for fun. Wasn't hoping for anything. They were all graded coins I will post a few pictures. I searched the certificate number on pcgs website to see if anything was really worth anything. Figured for $100 and getting 12 coins wouldn't hurt. I have spent $100 on dumber things Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Here are some pics of what I got with one of those auctions. Not the best pictures. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I can post bigger picture if you want. I thought a few were ok like the Kennedy halfs like I said in another post I am kinda new to this stuff Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I am sure there are a lot of minted coins in these years and a lot of graded ones too. I was just messing around with $100. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
In my opinion, this looks like a group of coins that would be considered "rejects" in that they likely were sent in looking for the PR70 designation and anything less makes them difficult to move.
Please note that if you like the coins then this is great. I am just writing from experience from what I have seen.
